A virtual reality experience to enter the Great Pyramid of Khufu
Created by the company Emissive, Immersive Expeditions are virtual reality experiences that allow you to discover a heritage site, artwork, or monument. This year, the company invites visitors to experience the discovery of the iconic Khufu Pyramid, a true symbol of Egypt and the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing today.
Nestled at the heart of the Institute of the Arab World in Paris, the exhibition is the fruit of years of research and data collection, carried out in partnership with an Egypt specialist: Egyptologist Peter Der Manuelian and his team from the Giza Archives Project (Harvard University).
To experience this unprecedented adventure, visitors are equipped with a virtual reality headset and a small backpack containing a computer. A virtual guide named Mona accompanies visitors throughout the experience to reveal all the secrets of the pyramid, its builders, and the inhabitants of the era. Other participants are visualized as avatar silhouettes for even more realism!
An exhibition to relive Egypt of the Fourth Dynasty
The augmented reality experience unfolds over 45 minutes. Throughout the visit, you travel back in time, some 2,600 years before our era, and find yourself immersed in historically accurate reconstructions at life-size scale.
Free to move about, the visitor, now an explorer, discovers all the unmissable treasures of the Giza plateau, including its 3 pyramids and its famous Sphinx. You make your way to the foot of the Great Pyramid, commissioned by Khufu, the second king of the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Upon entering the pyramid, you discover several chambers including the famous Queen's Chamber, the burial chambers, and even spaces normally closed to the public.
The visit continues to the summit of the pyramid where you discover a 360° panorama and catch a glimpse of modern-day Cairo. The final stage of the journey invites explorers aboard a great barque to sail on the sacred river…
